Names: Alison and Ryan Mountford. Location: California. Skiing: Volkl. Q < You grew up on the East Coast. Can you compare and contrast East Coast and Western skiing? A < Alison: When you look at a map of a mountain in Vermont or New Hampshire, it’s all trails, they’re all named. It’s very cut where you’re going to ski. Out here, it’s pretty open. So there’s a lift and an area, and you can have a different run every single time. And you’re almost always skiing in trees whereas back east, you have to look for the glades. And there’s always more snow out here. Ryan: And you freeze your ass off back east. It makes for a different day comfort-wise. It almost feels like you’re surviving the day sometimes. You have to layer up, you have to coat your whole face, you have to ski on ice. Alison: East Coast skiers are definitely tougher.
